This old bridge in Gundagai was closed in 1977. It brings back wonderful memories of holidays as a child and driving over this bridge. It's almost a kilometre long and "clunked" all the way over. I loved it. :-)

Sausages just about cooked well with ?vomit sauce. The sauce has lots of flavour, mostly unidentifable. This is one meal mash would have gone well with but we didn't get any. The mash is actually improving of late.. it's white and it has flavour! Will wonders never cease?!

If you look closely you will see vol-au-vent cases underneath the bland chicken, asparagus, carrots, peas and bland sauce. It looks predigested if ya ask me.. No on could deliberately arrange a plate that looks that awful. Surely not.

I thought pie/quiche pastry was supposed to be "short" i.e. if you bend it or bite it it should break. This demonstration proves that our quiche pastry can be bent to 90 degrees without breaking in two. It's started to crack but it's still resisting. MMMmmm nice and chewy..

This is what work thinks is worth $5. Visitors to the place and staff can buy a sandwich if feeling peckish. Five dollars for this? Any local deli will do better and won't do it with plastic bread and cheese.

Wow.. a meal with mashed spuds that aren't lumpy or grey and there are 2 pieces of real carrots! They aren't boiled to death or grey either. Wow. Shame about the frittata and gravy. Who serves frittata with gravy??? *shudder*

Quiche and mash spuds. Not a combination I would have thought of. I must say tho that the spuds were NOT from instant mash mix. How do I know? The little lumps were a giveaway. That minor sin aside (it happens to all of us) what I would like to know is how do you get the mash to have a burned flavour? The process doesn't involve any frying so how the hell do mashed spuds taste a bit burned? Interesting indeed.

Well tonight's special is quiche. The quiche part is ok. The pastry is rubbery. You can bend the pastry back on itself without cracking it. That's special. And of course with quiche you would serve more mixed veg...

We got the sauce inside the cases. I would have shredded the plastic ham rather than cubing it. How odd biting into cubed ham. Shredded would have been much more appealing. Dare I mention the vegetable accompaniments? More mash and mixed veg. Sigh.

I think these were pork balls. In truth, this time they weren't bad. Now think of all the times you've had meatballs. Haven't they always been served with sauce? Tomato, spaghetti, chilli sauce or similar seems to be the standard accompaniment. Note there was NO sauce to go with the balls. All we got were the ever present mash balls and veg mix. At least the veg were watery to help the balls go down. Sigh.

This is proof that the kitchen CAN produce nice food. Unfortunately it's reserved for the upper echelons of management. We got the leftovers. Very nicely cooked meat that was succulent and tender, real veges and a tasty sauce. Good food CAN be produced in the kitchen but we rarely get to see it....

Nothing better than luncheon meats left out at room temperature for a few hours. Plastic cheese, plastic meat, a few leaves do not an appetising plate make. At least the tomato was sliced this time.. better than when we had to try and cut a rock hard tomato with a butter knife (if we had a butter knife).

The soups are usually pretty good except when they are thickened with instant mash potato. This one though has that tinned Scotch broth smell. The floating corn kernels don't do much for the appeal either.

Savoury mince. Something that should be thought of as a weapon of mass disappointment. Hidden in there is the ubiquitous frozen veg mix. Have these people not heard of whole vegetables?

The presentation of this dish leaves a bit to be desired. It would never leave Gordon Ramsay's kitchen to be presented to a paying customer. I must admit tho, it is hard to dress up slops and mash as anything else. The frozen veg is disguised in the savoury mince but it's there...

I think it's meant to be zucchini loaf in the chef's delusions. In reality it's a greenish stodge. It's barely cooked and I'm sure eating it cause more pain and anguish than an equivalent amount of biscuit dough. Memo to the chef... cook the damn thing before serving and take the cement out of it.

How does one describe solid pillars of presumably salmon loaf. Stonehenge.. with small boulders of mashed potatoes and little pebbles of mixed veg. The worst crime tho is the smell. I've christened this one "Snappy Tom Loaf" because it smells like cat food.

Work occasionally brings preprepared food in from outside. These dishes aren't too bad normally. Edible at least. This time they stuffed up. The spinach lasagna wasn't in the oven long enuf for the cheese to melt... or for the pasta to cook! It wasn't al dente, it was RAW. I should be grateful there wasn't any mashed potato and three veg mix to go with the pasta... *shudder*

Just how big is the blowtorch our kitchen uses to "brown" the top of a quiche? You could turn carbon into diamonds with their torches judging by this quiche. Chickens gave us their offspring for this "meal"! I think the kitchen has blown their carbon footprint allowance on this meal. Sigh..

This dish wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the bitter and acrid herb used to "flavour" the sauce. Note also the elegant tray it's served on. Most sane people would call it aluminium foil but work thinks it's a silver platter. Sigh.

They forgot (again) to give us the vol-au-vent cases to put the sauce in. Sauce gelatinous and fit to slice and pick up with a fork. Added to that bland concoction was mashed potatoes which come with every meal. JOY!
